The barren plains. |
Pensive reflection. |
A modern civilization alive with the Crystal's songs of swords and sorcery.
In May 2006 Square Enix announced that development was underway on their first Final Fantasy for the next-generation - Final Fantasy XIII. A big shock was the simultaneous project also being developed along-side it known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. These multiple "XIII" titles were placed under a headship polyplatform series known as the Fabula Nova Crystallis -Final Fantasy XIII-.
Being developed by the team behind Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, Final Fantasy Versus XIII - powered by Square Enix's own Crystal Tools development engine - promises to bring a much more cinematic feel to the Final Fantasy gaming world, due to the nature of director Tetsuya Nomura's more artistic approach towards game development.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII will set in place the story of a currently nameless protagonist, the last remaining descendant of a royal family who have long protected the last Crystal of the world from their warring neighbouring country. Whilst details about the game are currently completely unknown, trailers for the title show that the story seems to take place at the turn of a large "cold war" between these countries.
